FALCONER – The Falconer Public Library is transforming the village with vibrant new additions.
The library has recently unveiled its summer reading program, themed “Color Our World.” The program invites young readers to embark on imaginative journeys.
“The theme of this year’s Collaborative Summer Reading Program is ‘Color Our World,'” said Laurie Becker, library director. “Each year, libraries determine how to incorporate a theme into their summer reading initiatives. This year, the Falconer Public Library has chosen to ‘Yarn Bomb’ the front of the library throughout July.”
According to Becker, Senior Library Clerk Sandy Thies, Story Hour Director Ashley Nelson, and library assistants Courtney Theofilactidis and Carrie Lyon came across pictures of this idea on the internet and worked to make it a reality in Falconer.
A knitting group affiliated with the library was consulted regarding their potential involvement in a project, as stated by Becker. The group emphasized the importance of ensuring that the project holds significance for the community. One of their recommendations was to create scarves as part of this initiative.
The vibrant scarves will ‘Color our World’ throughout July, and once summer reading concludes, the scarves will be removed, cleaned, and distributed to those in need this fall, Becker said in an email to The Post-Journal.
Becker expressed gratitude to the group of individuals who knitted and crocheted an array of donated items. Their colorful creations played a crucial role in igniting the summer reading program.
“The library had over twenty friends who donated knitted or crocheted items. Their time and talents are greatly appreciated,” she said. “The items were hung with help from the Falconer DPW crew, Falconer Code Enforcement Officer, friends of the library, and library staff. Stop by the library to see the colorful “Yarn Bombed.”
