Clymer, Sherman Sharing Several Positions

CLYMER — Clymer Central School’s Board of Education has recently approved the hiring of a new school counselor, along with a few new or expanded shared positions among regional schools.

Clymer’s new school counselor is Lori Hickernell, who is bringing 17 years of experience to the district from Pennsylvania. Hickernell officially begins her role on Aug. 28, and plans to spend time on campus beforehand to become familiar with the school community, Clymer Superintendent Beth Olson said.

When it comes to shared positions, Olson said the school is continuing to work on its partnerships with Sherman and Panama.

“As the new school year approaches, Clymer continues to prioritize regional partnerships with the Sherman and Panama school districts,” Olson said. “Several shared positions are in place to maximize resources while enhancing educational opportunities for students across all three districts.”

Andrea Bryant, who currently serves as both Clymer and Sherman’s Curriculum Coordinator, will now serve the schools as Director of Learning. This role will expand on the Curriculum Coordinator role, Olson said, which Bryant has held for the past two years.

“In this capacity, Andrea will support building administrators at both Clymer and Sherman, and lead collaborative instructional initiatives with teachers and students,” Olson said. “Her increased presence and responsibilities reflect the evolving needs of the districts.”

Clymer and Sherman will also continue to share Food Service Director, Sue Watrous. Watrous successfully managed student nutrition programs in both schools last year and will extend her leadership in this area into the upcoming school year as well.

Clymer and Sherman will also be sharing a Director of Transportation in the upcoming school year, a new shared position for the two districts.

“David Maleski will oversee bus operations for both Clymer and Sherman, lead annual driver training, and analyze daily transportation routes to identify efficiencies,” Olson said. “His work is especially important as districts navigate ongoing driver shortages and prepare for upcoming electric bus initiatives.”

Olson said the Clymer, Sherman and Panama districts remain committed to exploring collaborative opportunities to enhance student experiences and make the best use of their shared resources.

“District leaders are confident these changes will strengthen educational programs and set a positive course for the year ahead,” Olson said.
