Part of South Main Street is set to be closed off next week as the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is set to do work on a District Heating Main repair project.

The road will be closed from Monday, July 28 to Sunday Aug. 3, to “support a significant District Heating main replacement project” according to a press release from the BPU. The work will be conducted in Brooklyn Square, located on South Main Street between Harrison and West Second Streets, and the BPU said motorists should follow the signs — that have already been put in place this week — to find alternate routes.

“The work in Brooklyn Square will be a permanent repair of the temporary fix performed this past winter,” BPU Communications Coordinator Becky Robbins said.

A significant leak in the District Heating system back in January disrupted traffic in Brooklyn Square for multiple days. Back in January it was noted that the BPU has been working on an ongoing project to upgrade the district heating system for a while, and that leaks like the one in Brooklyn Square in January can happen at any time of the year, due to the aging infrastructure of the system.

The street is targeted to reopen to traffic following the permanent repair from that leak on Monday, Aug. 4.

Starting at $3.50/week.
