Baseball is woven into the very fabric of the Lindquist family, crafting a legacy that has been passed down through three generations.
At the Village of Falconer’s Night at the Park pre-game event before a recent Jamestown Tarp Skunks game, the Tarp Skunks showcased a special celebration featuring three generations of the Lindquist family. At the pre-game event, Ray Lindquist was recognized for his extensive contributions to the sports community. He has held various positions across multiple organizations that manage games played on baseball fields across southern Chautauqua County.
Greg Peterson, the Vice-President of the Jamestown Tarp Skunks Board of Directors, who served as the master of ceremonies for the event, stated that three generations of the Lindquist family have significantly impacted baseball both locally and nationally..
Ray Lindquist played, coached, worked as an umpire, played on the Falconer Pharmacy team and served as an equipment manager.
“Ray is also the grandfather of Tarp Skunks’ player No.45 Branston Lindquist (catcher), who’s done an outstanding job this season for the ball club,” Peterson said.
Peterson noted that Ben Lindquist, the son of Ray Lindquist and the father of Branston Lindquist, has a notable history in baseball, surpassing his father’s accomplishments.
“He went to umpire school, and made it as far as umpiring in Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Triple-A, Minor League Baseball (MiLB),” he said.
Minor League Baseball (MiLB) is a professional baseball organization that operates under the auspices of Major League Baseball (MLB) and consists of teams affiliated with MLB clubs. Founded on September 5, 1901, MiLB was established in response to the increasing dominance of the National League and the American League of baseball. Originally known as the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (NAPBL or NA), it is often referred to as the farm system.
As time has advanced, it has become increasingly clear that each generation of the Lindquist family has not only surpassed the achievements of those who came before, but has also garnered deeper recognition and admiration for their remarkable contributions to the game.
Ray Lindquist shared that his grandson, Branston, is a player for the Jamestown Tarp Skunks and is currently on scholarship at the University of Toledo, where he continues to excel in baseball. He believes that Branston possesses the talent to achieve greater heights in the sport than both his father and grandfather.
The Jamestown Tarp Skunks is a collegiate wooden baseball team that plays its home games at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park, located at 485 Falconer St., and competes in the West Division of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL).
