FREWSBURG — There’s a new sheriff in the town of Carroll. Well, he is not precisely a sheriff. Still, there is a new town supervisor after long-time Town Superior Russ Payne announced his retirement on April 28.
Trustee Tim Burkett has replaced Payne, who has served as Town Supervisor since Jan. 1, 2020. Burkett was sworn in as the new supervisor on May 7 after being appointed to the position. His oath of office was administered by a town justice.
According to Susan Rowley, the Clerk of the town of Carroll, the municipality’s Bicentennial Celebration is scheduled to take place from June 19 to June 22 at the Fireman’s Grounds, which were formerly used as carnival grounds. This event will feature a diverse array of family-oriented activities designed to engage and entertain attendees.
“On Friday, at 5 p.m., we will have a car show for people to enjoy, and live music, bounce houses, food trucks, craft vendors, and more,” she said.
Rowley said that the bands Night Shift, Total Chaos, and Backlog would perform some live musical offerings during the event.
“Our Fire Department will have a fish-fry fundraiser, and our American Legion post will have a chicken barbecue,” she said. “On Sunday, we will have a community-wide church service at 11 a.m., and I believe we will open a time capsule at noon. At 2:30, we have a community-wide picnic scheduled as well.”
Additionally, Rowley mentioned that some of the popular local choir groups will be putting on performances throughout the three-day event. It’s sure to be a wonderful experience
“We have the Jamestown Harmony choir, and Harmony Gals will perform as well,” she said. “As well as having a parade set for Saturday at 5p.m. ”
However, on the town’s Historical Facebook page, some have questioned why the town is not hosting a carnival at For more information, visit the official Facebook page of the Town of Carroll Bicentennial 1825-2025 or call the Town’s Office at 716-569-5365.
