Whether you grew up reading about “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” “The Cat In The Hat” and “Horton Hears a Who!”, or you are introducing your children or other relatives and friends to the stories, one thing remains constant – the entertainment value of the author of those books.
Dr. Seuss.
Saying those two words certainly grabs the attention of most listeners.
And now, patrons will get to see some of his characters in a new way as Lucille Ball Little Theatre of Jamestown will present Seussical Jr.

“Seussical Jr. is fun for all ages. Everyone knows and loves Dr. Seuss stories and Seussical Jr. does such a great job of blending so many of them together,” said LBLTJ President Holly Weston.
Weston added that the LBLTJ board will pick a show where there can be a larger cast to give more people in the community the opportunity to perform on stage.
“Productions like Seussical Jr where we can cast so many of the talented area youth are so important to the future of our organization,” Weston added.
Weston noted that coming to a show like Seussical Jr. means that patrons are watching talent that may be back on the LBLTJ stage in about five to 10 years as an adult in a role.
“It’s (the show) is truly the future of the organization,” Weston said.
According to lbltj.com, audiences are transported from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus. The Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
The book (libretto or script) is by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty with music by Flaherty, and lyrics by Ahrens.
The show is scheduled to be performed at Lucille Ball Little Theatre, 18 E. Second St., on Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
