Pearl City Munchies To Help Helene Victims With Support From Apex Dynasty Car Club
The founder and owner of Pearl City Munchies is taking his food trailer, loading it with donated goods, and heading out today to North Carolina to aid in ongoing relief efforts.
Jason Skinner, 44, of Jamestown is planning to load up his trailer on a multi-day trip to North Carolina to cook hot dogs and bring relief supplies today through Wednesday.
“We’re bringing food, water, clothes, hygiene products and I hope to cook about 3,000 hot dogs for people in North Carolina,” he said.
Skinner isn’t going at this endeavor alone. He’s planning on bringing two other friends with him on the relief-aid trip.
“I’m bringing my cousin and his friend with me,” he said.
Jonathan Williams, 38, and Tayien Dumas, 21, both of Jamestown, are planning to accompany Skinner on his mission of mercy.
“We are not the only three helping with this trip. The car club I am part of is helping to raise awareness and support,” said Skinner.
Eser Quinones, 41, of Puerto Rico and now a Jamestown resident, is using the Apex Dynasty Car Club he founded to help with the cause.
“This is for a really good cause, and we brought a couple of our cars out here to help try and draw attention to Skinner and his upcoming trip,” he said.
Skinner said the trio was planning to leave Saturday, and set up shop Sunday and Monday at Chimney Rock, N.C, then moving to Asheville, N.C on Tuesday and Wednesday, before returning to Jamestown on Thursday.
However, while Skinner says the target is to cook 3,000 hot dogs for people in North Carolina, he hopes to do more, and to bring as many supplies with him as possible.
Additionally, Skinner said he’s received more donations from Bimbo Bakery in the form of hot dog buns, pastries and bread products; Phone Zone and NACO Trucking, which arranged an agreement with Penske for Skinner and his crew to have a box truck to help with the donations delivery.
“The outpouring of support has been amazing,” said Skinner.
Hurricane Helene was a devastating tropical cyclone/hurricane that caused widespread damage, destruction and fatalities across the Southeastern United States in late September 2024. Helene is reported to be the strongest and deadliest Atlantic hurricane since Maria in 2017, and the deadliest to strike the mainland U.S. since Huriccane Katrina laid waist to New Orleans, La., in 2005, according to the United States Emergency Managment Agency (FEMA). As of October 12, at least 250 deaths have been attributed to the storm.
