The legacy of the Dickey family in Jamestown will live on permanently in Jackson-Taylor Park.

Tamara Dickey, newly appointed Chautauqua County legislator representing Jamestown, was one of two Dickey family members in attendance at the City Council’s voting session as the council was set to vote on accepting two separate donations from the Dickey family. The Dickey family donated a bench at Jackson Taylor Park in honor of Earline Dicky, a schoolteacher who championed literacy, and a hammer and chainsaw in recognition of George Dickey, a carpenter who enhanced many homes.

Dickey thanked the council and Mayor Kim Ecklund for recognizing her husband’s father and mother and their service to the community.

“I have been in these chambers, so I just appreciate the opportunity to present to you and the opportunity to continue to focus on someone in the community who is doing things for our Ward Three and District 11,” Dickey said.

Bob Dickey followed her in addressing the council, discussing George and Earline Dickey Day, which he said he hoped will be recognized on the day after the meeting, Oct 1. He also thanked the city for recognizing his parents. “We are totally grateful for the actions that were taken and the vote to acknowledge George and Earline Dickey tomorrow,” he said. “So, we are grateful, the three Dickey brothers, and the Dickey families, we thank you.”

Before the council voted to accept the donations, a few members of the council spoke in favor of the decision and thanked the Dickey family.

“I don’t think there’s a living room in Jamestown that Mr Dickey didn’t panel,” Councilwoman Regina Brackman, D-Ward 3. “I have lots of memories of Mr Dickey and his sons doing work around the community, so it is an honor to read this and support this.”

Russell Bonfiglio, Councilman At-Large and Jeffery Russell, Councilman At-Large, both recognized Bob Dickey as well, thanking him for his work as a carpenter with his dad, and acknowledging that he is a good neighbor.
