Benefit To Be Held For Family Of Local Woman On Sept. 15
A benefit for the family of a local woman who recently passed away after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had metastasized to other areas of her body is set for the middle of September.
Ruby Penhollow was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer on Aug 12. Penhollow peacefully passed away on Aug 25, in her home in Jamestown surrounded by her family. The benefit is being put on by the Brothers By Choice organization, and who Penhollow was a member of as well. The organization is also accepting donations for the benefit in the forms of physical merchandise, food, gift certificates and money.
The benefit will include a spaghetti dinner, a Chinese Auction, a bake sale and more, and is set for Sept 15 at the Celoron Legion, 26 Jackson Avenue, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Fellow Brothers By Choice member, Amanda Echard, said that the organization is a “strong family” and that the benefit is important to be able to help the family of one of their own.
“This benefit is very important so we can help the Penhollow family through this very hard time,” Echard said. “Ruby herself was a very strong member of the Brother By Choice community organization. She went above and beyond to help others who were in need, for things like benefits, etc. Ruby never backed down when needed.”
The spaghetti dinner will cost ten dollars, and the benefit will also include a Chinese auction, bake sale raffles, bake sale and 50/50. Echard encouraged everyone to attend.
“It’s time to kick back, listen to music, visit with others and have a great day,” Echard said. “People should also be interested in helping the Penhollow family in their time of need to be able to give them some relief during this hard time. We would also love to give Ruby a great send off that she deserves.”
Before her passing, Penhollow was previously employed by Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Service for 16 years and was married to Rick Penhollow for 17. Echard said Penhollow focused on helping her friends and family throughout her whole life.
“Ruby was a very strong, encouraging and loving mother, a grandmother, wife, and friend,” Echard said. “Ruby always went above and beyond to help all she could, especially helping raise her grandchildren. Ruby’s family and friends meant so much to her.”
