MAYVILLE – Some new playground equipment is coming to the village this fall and the community is asked to help install it.
During this week’s Village Board meeting, it was announced that the village is adding new pieces and making improvements to some of the equipment at Lakeside Park. They’re also getting a new playground at Pearl Gravit Memorial Park, and installing some musical playground equipment to the Village Green in the downtown area.
In Lakeside Park, there is a regular swing set which will be replaced with a new, fancier swing set. Other new pieces of equipment include a new climbing wall; a We-Saw, a type of see saw; a Cozy Dome; a ReviWheel Spinner; and a sensory play center that will have a color splash panel and marble panel.
The two current castle playgrounds – one for bigger children and one for smaller children – will both have parts of them replaced, including a crawl-through tunnel and the climbing sections.
At Gravit Park, there is no playground. It’s mainly used for baseball/softball games. A smaller playground will be installed there. This will give younger children a place to play when their older siblings are playing in a game.

At the Village Green, the following musical play pieces will be added: Rhapsody Cascata Bells, Rhapsody Kettle Drum, and Rhapsody Vivo Metallophone.
The total cost of all the equipment is $142,379. The equipment for Lakeside Park and the Village Green will cost $122,382. The Gravit Park playground will cost $19,997.
The money for the new playground equipment is coming from the American Rescue Plan Act funds the village received from the federal government to help municipalities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
But to keep the costs lower, the village is seeking volunteers Friday-Saturday, Oct. 4-5 to install the new equipment. Oct. 4 hours are from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 morning shift is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the afternoon shift runs 1:30 to 6 p.m.
“We are looking for a minimum of 50 volunteers for each shift but would welcome more,” explained Jennifer Obert, village treasurer. “Volunteers are asked to bring the following tools: 3/8-inch ratchet, metal garden rake, and a round nosed shovel.”
Mayor Richard Syper noted the village’s Department of Public Works staff and the playground company will also be in attendance to supervise the work at both Lakeside and Gravit parks. The village employees will be installing the musical play pieces in the Village Green.
