All five bison that were roaming loose next to I-86 near Sherman last week have returned home safe.

The five bison were first reported by travelers on I-86 on Saturday, July 13. By the following Monday two had been corralled and brought home, while three remained on the loose near the highway. Not long after, their owner, Charlie Sorce, said the remaining three returned home as well.

“They came home by themselves,” Sorce said. “They just showed up on the other side of the fence and we let them back in.”

When talking with the Post-Journal on July 15, Sorce said they were in the process of fixing the fence. Now, the fence has been fixed and Sorce said no one will be getting out again. Besides these five bison, Sorce is the owner of many wild and unique animals such as zebras, a camel, and the wallaby who also got loose last October.

Following these two instances of animals running loose, Sorce said with bigger and more wilder animals it happens sometimes, but that it should not happen again.

“This happens,” Sorce said. “I have a lot of animals here. But, the fence is fixed so it shouldn’t happen again. Nobody should be getting out again.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
