Clymer Area Businesses Prepare For Upcoming Solar Eclipse

CLYMER — A few local businesses in the town of Clymer are holding a few special sales and making preparations for the expected influx of tourists coming with the solar eclipse on April 8.

The Dutch Village Restaurant and Gift Shop has specials running from April 5 to 8 through that weekend. Specials include a sunrise skillet, a solar eclipse salad and a blackout burger.

“Everyone says lots of tourists will be coming to the area so I thought we might as well have some specials available so people can also come in for a meal while they’re here,” General Manager for the restaurant, Brittany Gerould said.

The restaurant will also have their Monday smorgasbord happening that Monday night from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. They are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Monday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Gerould said she is hoping for a good weekend.

“I hope it will be a really good weekend with everyone coming to the area,” Gerould said. “I think people will come for the smorgasbord and because our breakfasts are good and it should be a good weekend.”

Clymer Hardware and Home Center is currently selling special eclipse shirts while supplies last. Sizes range from small to 2XL and cost $29.99 for all sizes.

“We just thought the shirts would be fun and a good commemorative way to celebrate,” Amy Woods, who manages the store with her husband Jon, said.

Clymer’s Neckers Company General Store, while not offering any specials at the moment, is still hopeful for an influx of people throughout the weekend.

“We talked about doing something but we’re not really offering anything,” Barry Neckers, who owns the store, said. “We are hoping for people to come by that weekend. It’s hard to say for sure what to expect because we’ve never experienced an eclipse before.”

Neckers added that he expected to see at least somewhat of an influx of people in the store. They are also making plans and stocking up on items for the weekend of the eclipse.

“I’m sure the restaurants will be full and people will be looking for alternatives for meals like the pizzas and subs that we offer,” Neckers said.
