Though Christmas may be weeks away, several holiday-themed events are taking place this weekend throughout Chautauqua County.
Two of the biggest celebrations Saturday will be held in Jamestown and Fredonia, with the "Jingle and Mingle Festival" scheduled for the south county city and "Miracle on Main Street" in the north end.
In Jamestown, festivities begin at noon and will include live music on Tracy Plaza and a free showing of "The Santa Clause" at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts.
At 6 p.m., the "Light the City" holiday parade kicks off at 6 p.m. The parade will move along Third Street and end at the city Municipal Building.
A toy drive in collaboration with the Jamestown High School track team, Jamestown Police Department and Jamestown Fire Department also will take place during the day. The drive will be at the corner of East Third and Spring streets from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
"Make sure you look for the police car and fire truck along with a bunch of great kids who will be there to accept your new unwrapped toy or monetary donation," said Collaborative Children's Solutions, which is organizing Saturday's events.
A fireworks show at Tracy Plaza will cap off the night.
Meanwhile, Festivals Fredonia's annual downtown "Miracle on Main Street" will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as the official village holiday tree lighting.
The day also will include refreshments, food and craft vendors, a free movie at the 1891 Opera House, gingerbread decorating at Fredonia United Methodist Church, doughnut decorating, and a basket raffle.
According to Festivals Fredonia, Saturday's events kick off at 10 a.m. with activities throughout the village, American Legion Post, Fredonia First Methodist Church, Fredonia Family Church, Next Chapter Bookstore, the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center, Darwin R. Barker Library and Fredonia Grange No. 1.
There will be story time with Santa at Barker Library and story time with Mrs. Claus at the Next Chapter Bookstore, 12 Park Place.
The Opera House will be showing "The Polar Express" at 4 p.m. The movie will be followed by the lighting of the official holiday tree by Santa at Darwin R. Barker Museum.
Immediately afterward, Festivals Fredonia's annual give back donation will be presented to the SonShine Charitable Fund at the museum.
Other Christmas event taking place this weekend include:
• "Christmas through the Village" in Findley Lake from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free wagon rides will be available Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place at noon.
Santa and Mrs. Claus also will walk through town from noon to 3 p.m. both days.
• "Santa's Stopover in Ashville" will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Ashville General Store, 4844 Route 474, Ashville, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The event will include food, drinks and music.
• The second annual "Light Up The Point" in Bemus Point will be Saturday.
A parade will begin at 5 p.m. and will end at the intersection of Lakeside Avenue and Main Street where a tree lighting ceremony will take place with Santa Claus.
• "Light Up Cassadaga" will be Saturday in the village.
Events from 3:30 to 5 p.m. include Santa in the Park; a living nativity at Park United Methodist Church, 25 Maple Ave.; and children's activities at Cassadaga Library, 18 Maple Ave.
At 5 p.m. will be Christmas caroling, the lighting of the park and "Home for the Holidays Raffle" at Ames Common.
At 6 p.m., the Valley Community Choir will perform a Cantata of "O Holy Night" at Park Church.
