Wegmans, American Heart Association Support Local Club

By Christopher Blakeslee 2 min read

The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown just got a whole lot safer thanks to a donation from Wegmans.

The local store donated a complete emergency kit, which includes bandages, compression pads, alcohol wipes and scissors. The kit also includes a "Mini Resuscitation Annie" figure for training CPR as well as an automated external defibrillator, among other items.

"We're presenting this complete emergency first-aid kit to the Boys and Girls Club here in Jamestown," said Danielle Stone, a manager and team leader with Wegmans. "The American Heart Association will provide all the necessary training for the staff."

The mission statement of the local Boys and Girls Club reads: "To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

"The Boys and Girls Club is such an important part of our community," Stone said. "They do amazing work with our youth and local area families. It's a pleasure to support them."

Various Boys and Girls Club officials expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the donation.

"We'll put this kit to good use," said Jordan Thomas, an operational employee at the club. "We have a lot of sports leagues and other programming here; we try to make sure we're 100% safe in all we do, but you never know when you're going to need a Band-Aid or if a big emergency were to kick-off. It's better to be safe than sorry."

Moreover, the spirit of gratitude was also very evident by other Boys and Girls Club staff members.

"We're very grateful and thankful for this wonderful donation," said Robin Lawson, club program director. "We have so many programs that this safety kit will be of great use, like our day and summer camps, sports leagues and swimming lessons. Plus, the American Heart Association is going to provide all the training we need. I’m in awe."
