Jeff Muntz watched with pride as a 40-foot-tall Norway spruce, just harvested from his backyard, arrived at its new home Thursday morning.

“It was something to see them take it down,” Muntz said as the tree was taken from a flatbed truck parked outside the Jamestown Municipal Building and hoisted into position using a crane from the Board of Public Utilities.

“I just hope everybody enjoys it,” he continued.

If history is any indication, the Christmas Tree is sure to be popular among residents as the holiday season approaches.

The Muntz family donated the tree that was harvested from the back yard of their Dunn Avenue home Thursday morning.

Once out of the ground, crews with the city Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department and BPU positioned the tree onto a truck provided by Lake Shore Paving. From there, the Norway spruce made its way to Tracy Plaza where it was placed upright outside City Hall.

In a news release, the city Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department said the tree will be decorated with more than 3,000 energy saving LED lights.

The ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place during this year’s Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 2.
