Incumbents Win In Town Of Ellicott, Village Of Falconer

A number of towns and villages in Chautauqua County had competitive election races Tuesday. Below are the unofficial results of those contested races.

ARKWRIGHT

Brian McAvoy defeated Lawrence Wilcox for town supervisor, 216-126. McAvoy ran on the Democratic line while Wilcox ran on the Republican and Conservative lines. Also, Chris Jackson (211) and Polly Gambino (254) were elected to the town council, while Christopher Cannon (123) lost. Gamino ran on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines; Cannon ran on the Republican and Conservative lines; and Jackson ran on the Democratic line.

CASSADAGA

For village trustee, William Astry (95) and Cathleen Cruver (108) won, while Sean Seibert (78) lost. Astry and Cruver ran on the Taxpayers line, while Seibert ran on the Kayaker line. Also, Danna Dubois was elected to the village trustee vacancy seat. She ran unopposed on the Taxpayers line.

DUNKIRK TOWN

Jean Crane (166) and Shari Miller (168) were elected to the town council while G. Jay Bishop (147) lost. Miller ran on the Republican and Conservative lines; Crane ran on the Republican line; and Bishop ran on the Conservative line. Also, residents in the town accepted a proposal to reduce the number of justices from two to one, eliminating one justice position. The proposal passed 173-95. According to the Board of Elections, the 10 write-in votes that were received for the vacancy for justice will not be counted, due to the proposal to eliminate the justice position passing.

ELLERY

Mark Schlemmer (352) and David Boughton (474) were elected to the town council while John Sitzenstatter (299) lost. Sitzenstatter ran on the Democratic line while Schlemmer and Boughton ran on the Republican lines.

ELLICOTT

Todd Beckerink lost to Janet Bowman for town supervisor. Bowman received 977 votes while Beckerink received 822. Beckerink ran on the Democratic line, while Bowman ran on the Republican and Conservative lines. For town clerk, Adrienne Swanson lost to Amy Bellardo for town clerk. Bellardo received 1,168 votes while Swanson received 632. For Ward 2 town council, David Lamantia lost to Robert White. White received 287 votes while Lamantia received 250. Lamantia ran on the Democratic line, while White ran on the Republican and Conservative lines. For Ward 3 town council, Steven Cybart lost to Katy Whitmore. Whitmore received 265 votes while Cybart received 162. Cybart ran on the Democratic line while Whitmore ran on the Republican line. For Ward 4 town council, Daniel McNeill lost to Kenneth Swan. Swan received 295 votes while McNeill received 183. McNeill ran on the Democratic line, while Swan ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.

ELLINGTON

Karen Bifaro defeated Christine Emmick for town supervisor, 203-128. Emmick ran on the Republican line, while Bifaro ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines. It was a tight race for the two town council seats. Bradley Griffith received 182 votes and David Brainard received 167. Loren Kent, meanwhile received 164 votes and Jeffrey Chase received 112 votes. Kent and Chase ran on the Democratic lines, while Brainard and Griffith ran on the Republican lines.

FALCONER

James Jaroszynski defeated Jason Higbee for mayor, 223-201. Jaroszynski ran on the Democratic, Conservative and Working Families lines, while Higbee ran on the Republican line.

FRENCH CREEK

Voters accepted a proposal to move all elected terms from two to four years, 75-30.

HANOVER

Todd Johnson lost to Elizabeth Vancheri for town clerk. Johnson received 583 votes, while Vancheri received 757. Johnson ran on the Democratic line, while Vancheri ran on the Republican and Conservative lines. Also, James Feldmann (809) and Aimee Rogers (868) won for town council, while Kevin O’Connell (635) lost. O’Connell ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines, while Feldmann and Rogers ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.

NORTH HARMONY

Benny Karson defeated Kory Stevens for town highway superintendent 327-180. Karson ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, while Stevens ran on the Open-Meadows lines.

POLAND

Voters accepted a proposal to establish the Kennedy Free Library’s operating budget at $75,000, 228-172.

POMFRET

Adam Rak (1,386) and Ann Eckman (1,540) won for town council, while John Sedota ((1,072) lost. Eckman and Rak ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines, while Sedota ran on the Republican line.

RIPLEY

Laura Pless lost to Donald Rice for town supervisor. Rice received 378 votes, compared to 309 for Pless. Pless ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines, while Rice ran on the Republican and Conservative lines. For town clerk, Ryleigh Enterline defeated Lisa Henry, 478-211. Enterline ran on the Democratic, Conservative and Working Families lines, while Henry ran on the Republican and Vote 4-Integrity lines. For town council, Calvin Janes (480) and Jeffry Lyons (401) won, while Philip Chimera (360) lost. Chimera ran on the Democratic and Conservative lines; Lyon ran on the Republican and Vote 4-Integrity lines; and Calvin Janes ran on the Democratic and Republican lines. For highway superintendent, the vote is too close to determine. Jason Jones received 343 votes while James Spacht received 341. There are also three write-in votes. Jones ran on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines, while Spacht ran on the Vote 4-Integrity line.

SHERIDAN

Joseph White (386 votes) and Colleen Yerico (467 votes) won town council seats while Susan Bigler (251 votes) lost. Bigler ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines, while White and Yerico ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.

WESTFIELD

David Brown (612) and James Herbert Sr. (568) won for town council, while Cynthia Carlson (301) lost. Carlson ran on the Democratic line; Brown ran on the Republican line, and Herbert ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.
