LAKEWOOD — Community staple Schuyler’s Kitchen has recently opened under new management after being part of the community for the past 13 years.

Amy and Marc Martis, owners of Lake Life Cafe in Bemus Point, along with their general manager, Joe Gerace, recently bought and took over the business from previous owner, Deb Schuyler. Gerace said the sale came about after looking for new business ventures.

“I was looking into expanding into a new business venture with Marc and Amy, and we had a few other things that we looked into that didn’t work out,” Gerace said. “We found out that Deb was looking for a buyer and to keep the restaurant open. We sat down and talked with her and it turned out to be a wonderful fit for both of us.”

Gerace said that people do not have to worry about major changes being made to the restaurant under their ownership. The plans are to keep the staff and food the same, and the only changes that will be made will be on the small scale such as a new point-of-sale system.

“In the restaurant industry people are everything,” Gerace said. “Both the people and food that were already here are wonderful.”

Additionally, Gerace said owning a second restaurant will not change much at Lake Life Cafe. Gerace will be the general manager of both, and he said while there may be some crossover nothing much will change at either place.

Schuyler’s Kitchen, located at 4477 W. Fairmount Ave., will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday. Only breakfast will be offered on the weekends, with both breakfast and lunch offered on weekdays. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Gerace wants to assure people that the same great food and service as before will still be there.

“We are adamant that people can be confident that they can come and still get the same great service and food as before,” Gerace said. “This is a special place and we want to assure people that they will still get the same service.”

Future growth for the restaurant is also being planned, including outdoor seating, more menu items and the overall atmosphere.

Gerace thanked the Schuylers for their hard work over the years.

“We are very thankful to Deb and Ernie,” Gerace said. “They built and ran this incredible restaurant for 13 years. We want to assure the Schuyler family and the community that we will continue the legacy that they built and help it to grow and continue to work on it for years to come.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
