Tim Hortons already has a home in Brooklyn Square in Jamestown — but it’s looking for a bigger one with more parking and a bigger yard across the street.

City Planning Commission members this week were briefed on a conceptual proposal for a brand new Tim Horton’s location at the former Jimmy’s Restaurant and Friendly’s location in Brooklyn Square.

The architectural conceptional plan calls for a for a 2,700-square-foot restaurant with a double drive through, which would not impact the Riverwalk greenspace. Briefing the commission on behalf of local Tim Horton’s franchisee owner Blake Tarana was Kevin Drozin, an architect with M&S Consultants.

Tarana told the city Planning Commission that the former Jimmy’s Restaurant building would be demolished while turning most of the site into open, green space. He also stated that there would be a dining area inside the new location as well as patio seating in front of the restaurant on the Harrison Street side of the building.

“It would leave the Riverwalk infrastructure the way it is,” Tarana said. “The sidewalk and the benches and tables that would all remain. We would just look to, once we demo the building, make that a green space right next to the Riverwalk.”

Tarana noted that the cost of land in the city is “outrageous.”

But this would give us property control of a store that is, frankly, the third busiest in the country,” he said.

He added, “There could be questions as to why were doing this. We’ve had a struggle with our landlord, in the past when getting a lease. So, we saw that this was an opportunity to put into our own control and make sure that we basically secured, frankly, our busiest and one of Tim Horton’s busiest sites in Jamestown for good.”

Tarana estimates that construction could start as early as spring 2024, with Planning Commission approval and possibly opening the restaurant in late August or early September.
