A new development is being eyed along Fairmount Avenue in what has become a bustling business corridor in the south county.
Plans for a Take 5 Oil Change location have been announced for 995 Fairmount Ave. The site, located in West Ellicott just prior to entering the village of Lakewood, was previously home to Pizza Hut and, most recently, Honest John's Pizzeria.
Andy Johnson, an engineer with EcoStrategies, and Mike Haigh, owner and developer of Quattro Development, went before the Ellicott Zoning Board in September to discuss the project. Johnson said the building currently standing will be demolished to make way for a 1,610-square-foot oil change business. He also noted that one of the two entrances from Fairmount will be removed to "increase safety."
Haigh told members of the town Zoning Board that Take 5 Oil Change has 800 locations nationwide. The West Ellicott business, he said, will have three bays that drivers can pull into.
In addition, Haigh said, the business only deals with oil changes, air filters and wiper blade replacements. He said customers remain in their vehicles during the service, which amounts to about 10 minutes per visit.
On average, Haigh estimates the location will see 50 customers a day -- about seven an hour during peak hours of 10-11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The business will employ four to five workers.
Hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
On its website, Take 5 Oil Change states, "We work quickly and efficiently but never cut corners on friendly, professional experienced service. We treat your car like we'd treat our own. That's why our mission is to have you come back again and again and again."
At their September meeting, town Zoning Board members unanimously approved the developer's site plan.
Haigh said construction will begin in mid-to-late March 2024.
Take 5 Oil Change will be the latest development to crop up along Fairmount in West Ellicott. This spring, Evans Wines & Liquors moved into its new building while Target opened inside the former Kmart store.
In late 2020, Honest John's Pizzeria announced it was opening a second location at the former Pizza Hut location. The Jamestown-based pizzeria had been leasing the space.
