Juggling Act A Big Hit At Reg Lenna

Nels Ross, right, one half of The Up Guys, performs a juggling routine with audience members Wednesday at the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts, part of the first day activities of the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival.

Juggling is an ancient and historic act and performance. However, one performer has put a new spin and twist on the art form, much to the delight of event attendees.

The Up Guys, consisting of performers Nels Ross, and his partner in crime, Richie Derwald, performed Wednesday at the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts, adding a twist, turn and throw to the star-studded line up of performers for the National Comedy Center’s Lucille Ball Festival.

Ross and The UP Guys is a local, geographically based show. Based out of the Buffalo area, Ross has been a friend and advocate for the National Comedy Center. Additionally, the uniqueness of the act was not lost for some of the city’s residents.

“I think juggling is pretty cool and different,” said Mike Troche, a native of Jamestown and longtime Comedy Festival attendee. “I mean, think about it, this is a free performance, and its child friendly, what’s it hurt to takeout your family and kids for some fun.”

If the adults found the variety act to be entertaining, children were ecstatic.

Nels Ross includes the audience with juggling.

“I think juggling is fun,” said Henery Johnson, 5, soon to be kindergartener at C.C. Ring Elementary School and son of Pete and Lindsey Johnson. “I think I want to do this, too. I can do it.”

While the show featured Ross juggling several different items, it also incorporated lots of comedy and show attendees interactions as part of the total show. Several members of the audience were asked to assist with a variety of juggling acts, and asked questions and bounced several inflatable balls from the stage to the rear of the theater and back.

Starting at $3.50/week.
