UPDATE: Tips Quickly Lead Police To Robbery Suspect

Police are looking to identify the male seen here prior to an armed robbery Monday evening.

A bevy of tips from the public led police to a suspect in the armed robbery of a Kwik Fill location Monday in Jamestown.

A man, whose identity was not released by press time, was in custody facing robbery charges. He was located at a Bentley Avenue residence in the town of Ellicott just hours after police were alerted to a hold up of the nearby Kwik Fill gas station and convenience store at 161 Fluvanna Ave.

Shortly after the robbery, in which a small handgun was displayed, police released a photograph taken from surveillance video showing a white male wearing a black shirt and jeans entering the convenience store. The suspect also appears to have been carrying a backpack.

Afterward, police said the male suspect ran away, though it’s not known how much, if any, money was taken.

With the release of the photograph within an hour of the hold up, police received “many, many tips,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department. Utilizing those tips, police were eventually directed to Bentley Avenue where a person matching the suspect’s description was located at a residence.

The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of the Ellicott Police Department. The man was transported to Jamestown City Jail for booking and was expected to appear in court on a robbery charge.

Starting at $4.00/week.
