A newer restaurant in Bemus Point is set to be featured on America’s Best Restaurants.

Lake Life Cafe, owned by Amy and Mark Martis, first opened in May 2021 after the couple realized that Bemus Point lacked a coffee shop.

“We own a house on the lake and we could never find a good cup of coffee locally,” Amy Martis said. “We saw the building was for sale, and we took a gamble and opened up the cafe and coffee shop.”

Located at 22 Main St., Lake Life Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the summer season. They are open all year, but hours tend to change depending on the season.

Lake Life Cafe can be reached at 716-386-2200 or on their website lakelifecafe.com.

America’s Best Restaurants travels the country telling the stories and highlighting the unique food of locally owned independent restaurants. Restaurants they have featured in the past in New York State include; 4 Below Haggy’s Bar and Grill in Jamestown, Finnerty’s Tap Room in Ellicottville, Windjammers Bar and Grill in Rochester, Danny’s Buffalo Cuisine in Orchard Park and more. They will be on location filming on June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

“America’s Best Restaurants called the restaurant and asked if we would be interested in being filmed,” Martis said. “They were already going to be filming in the area and saw us on Google Reviews. We thought it would be a good experience for the restaurant and Bemus Point community.”

Being featured on the show for Martis means that the risk that she and her husband decided to take by opening the cafe was worth it.

“It means the risk we decided to take has come to fruition,” Martis said. “It means we have become a staple in the Bemus Point community with a great manager and staff. We hope it will let people see a place in the area that they never have, and make it a tourist destination. It’s very honorable.”

Martis does not know much about what is in store for the show’s filming, but guessed crews would film the restaurant and local area, and highlight some of the favorite items on the menu. She also expects to provide background on the local area and the staff.

Martis has high hopes for the episode.

“I hope it showcases our amazing general manager and staff that run the place, and their talents,” Martis said. “Hopefully it will show Bemus Point as a whole and allow people to realize that Bemus Point is growing. There’s a lot to be proud of in this town.”

Martis encourages people to keep an eye out on the restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram pages for the episode along with specials and contests that they will be offering to go along with the feature that will allow people to win items such as gift cards.
