A multi-million dollar state Department of Transportation project will include the conversion of the road from four lanes to three lanes after the surface is first milled and then paved. A contract completion date of June 30 has been cited by a state DOT spokesperson. City officials for years had discussed an overhaul of Washington. The highlight of the project will be the establishment of a middle lane for left turns and new 5-foot bike lanes with 2-foot buffer areas along both sides of Washington Street.
