One person suffered burn injuries after fire broke out Tuesday morning at a city property that houses a longtime tavern and several apartments.
Jamestown firefighters were called to the Bullfrog Hotel, 1414 E. Second St., at about 8:15 a.m. for a fire inside a second-floor apartment.
Matt Coon, deputy fire chief, said at the scene that crews were able to locate one victim who suffered burn injuries as a result of the morning blaze. That victim, Coon said, was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment, though an update on their condition was not known later on in the day.
No other injuries were reported; a few tenants escaped safely, and it’s believed others were not inside when the fire started.
The Bullfrog Hotel contains a tavern on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors. Coon said it appears the fire originated in a second-floor apartment and then extended into another apartment above it on the third floor.

City fire investigators were later called to the scene. The cause of the blaze was not made public by press time.
Also at the scene was Theodore Langworthy, who has owned the Bullfrog Hotel and apartments for 43 years. Langworthy said he was at an eye doctor appointment Tuesday morning for a checkup when he was alerted to the fire.
“I had to jump up and leave,” he told reporters as he watched city firefighters work on the structure nearby.

He said there are seven or eight tenants who reside in the apartments above the tavern. He almost was at a loss for words to describe those who may be displaced due to the fire.
In 1979, Langworthy took over ownership of the Bullfrog Hotel from his late uncle, Curtis Langworthy. According to an October 2002 story highlighting the property’s 100th anniversary, the structure was built in 1902 by Jamestown Malleable Iron.
Langworthy proudly told The Post-Journal in 2002 that the Bullfrog Hotel name had never changed in its history. “It never had a different name,” he said 20 years ago. “It’s always been the the Bullfrog Hotel.”
On Tuesday, Langworthy reiterated the property’s namesake and its tradition.
City firefighters were assisted Tuesday morning by officers with the Jamestown Police Department, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, Alstar EMS and Chautauqua County EMS.
Ryan Roush, a battalion chief with the Jamestown Fire Department, confirmed later on that the local chapter of the American Red Cross had been called to assist the occupants. He said the property sustained fire, smoke and water damage, and noted that the utilities had been shut off.
