MAYVILLE — What’s in a name?

Reputation.

Andriaccio’s Restaurant has developed a good reputation since opening its doors in 1982.

And maybe that’s what makes the restaurant stand out.

“I think is how long we’ve been in business. And you know, you don’t usually see family businesses stay within the family for so long,” said Jake Andriaccio, who manages the front of the house.

The motto that greets customers as they walk into Andriaccio’s Restaurant in Mayville.

The eating establishment, located at 4837 West Lake Road, Mayville, was named winner in the Best Italian Restaurant category in the 2022 Chautauqua County Best of the Best contest sponsored by The Post-Journal and the Dunkirk OBSERVER.

Jake and his twin brother Justin, who also cooks, worked their way up through the ranks.

“I grew up in it,” Jake Andriaccio said. “We started at the bottom. We started doing (washing) dishes and working our way up through the ranks.”

Jake Andriaccio said it’s not often that a family establishment is in one place for 40 years. The family recently celebrated 40 years of business at the same location. According to its website andriaccios.com, the restaurant has been serving the community of Chautauqua since the founders, Guy and Antoinette Andriaccio bought an old gas station at Routes 394 and 33 across from Chautauqua Institution and opened its doors in February of 1982.

“It’s a great location,” Nick Andriaccio, restaurant owner, said.

“It’s always been a restaurant, but the styles have changed,” Jake Andriaccio said.

During the institution’s nine-week summer season, the restaurant’s business goes into high gear.

“Yeah we gear up. It’s super busy,” Jake Andriaccio said.

But aside from the business that is generated during the season, Jake Andriaccio said the spring weather also has a lot to do with the uptick in business.

“As soon as the weather starts getting warmer, people start coming back into town, and we see an increase right around the beginning of May,” Jake Andriaccio noted.

Another reason, Jake Andriaccio noted, for the restaurant’s popularity is customers who ate there while growing up.

“People grew up eating here, and then they bring their kids here. They know our name, and it’s like a nostalgic place where they came through their childhood. Our quality speaks for itself, and that tends to spread. When people come into town, they always recommend people,” Jake Andriaccio said.

Aside from the pizza, the pasta dishes are what Jake Andriaccio said are very popular with customers.

“I think what we do the best compared to a lot of other places is our seafood carbonara,” Jake Andriaccio said. Everything is handmade.”

And Justin Andriaccio’s favorite dish to make is shrimp protifino which is angel hair pasta tossed with shrimp, local shitake mushrooms, spinach, toasted pine nuts and a light lemon butter cream sauce.

The restaurant will undergo some renovations to make customer traffic flow more efficient, Nick Andriaccio said.

“We’re a staple,” said Nick Andriaccio. “For the forty years that we have been here, there is definitely a kind of guarantee that your going to get, and it’s family operated.”
