Summer Wind Removed From Lake For Last Time
The Summer Wind is pictured this week as it is lifted out of Chautauqua Lake from Long Point State Park. The scenic cruiser was recently purchased at auction and will be shipped by truck to the Rochester area. Steve Gibbs of Gibbs Marine Group said recently he plans to finish renovations on the boat before returning it to the water for use as a dinner cruise operation. “I feel really bad that I’m taking her away,” Gibbs told The Post-Journal last week. Huge cranes had to be brought to Long Point in order to lift the 130-passenger Summer Wind out of the water. Richard “Captain Rick” Willman, the boat’s longtime owner and operator, died earlier this year. The Summer Wind had been a summertime tradition on Chautauqua Lake since the late 1990s. It had been used for birthdays, weddings and tours.
