Care Center Vaccinations Vary, State Finds

Skilled nursing facility COVID-19 vaccination numbers in Chautauqua County appear to be quite promising.

According to the most recent statistics through New York state on Tuesday, 94% of residents in these locations are vaccinated while staff levels are at 99%. In Cattaraugus County, the number is 97% for residents and 94% for staff.

Dunkirk Rehabilitation and Nursing Center as well as Lutheran Social Services have 100% of staff vaccinated with Absolut Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation at Westfield and Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at more than 99%. Heritage facility numbers are around 98%.

Where the numbers are lagging, however, is in the assisted living facilities. While the numbers for residents are reported to be the same by the state, staffing levels are concerning. Here in Chautauqua County, the number is 76% vaccinated with only 66% vaccinated in Cattaraugus County.

Locally, the percentages at Frewsburg Rest Home and Tanglewood are the lowest at 32% and 46%.

While the vaccinations for those working in health-care continue to be under scrutiny, ZIP code breakdowns through the Centers of Disease Control find local communities teetering between 29% and 99%. The communities at 99% include Findley Lake and Versailles in Cattaraugus County. At the lower end of the spectrum is Lily Dale and Panama at 30%.

In the cities, Dunkirk has 59% vaccinated with Jamestown at 53%. Fredonia is at 51.1%.
