More details were released after a woman’s body was discovered inside a Jamestown apartment earlier this week.
The Jamestown Police Department said it’s still looking into the incident, with the assistance of the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office and the local office of the FBI. The investigation kicked off Tuesday around 1:20 p.m. after officers were called to 118 Price St. to check the well-being of a woman whose family had not heard from her in several days.
After forcing entry, officers located the woman and 32-year-old Geoffrey P. Ghiandoni inside.
In an update Thursday, the police department noted that the woman — whose name was not released — “appeared to have been deceased for several days.”
Ghiandoni, who also lives in the apartment, was detained while a search warrant was obtained to search the residence.
A portion of Price Street was closed for several hours, and members of the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team remained on scene until about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Jamestown police said.
The woman’s body was transported to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo where an autopsy was performed. Official results of the autopsy are pending further tests and toxicology, police said.
During the search, investigators located at .22 caliber rifle resulting in a fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon charge for Ghiandoni. The charge is the result of a prior felony conviction for the city resident.
“Investigators do not believe that the rifle seized was involved in the death of this victim,” JPD said in a news release.
Anyone who may have information on the woman’s death is asked to contact the Jamestown Police at 483-7537 or via the anonymous tips line at 716-483-Tips (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
