Business Owner Brings Energy To NY

Daniel Okwumabua

Through a rising career in energy consultation and a growing musical prowess, 38-year-old Daniel Okwumabua has made great strides as a CEO and vocalist.

Okwumabua’s duality of science and art has stayed with him for the majority of his adult life. He started working in energy management in New York City about 10 years ago. Now he owns and operates PrimeSource Energy Solutions, LLC, a company that helps other companies throughout the state and country navigate utility costs and choose the best energy sources possible.

“There’s a lot of incentive for these companies to go the renewable route,” Okwumabua said.

As such, he’s learned much about renewable energy sources, specifically solar power. He works with various companies to help reduce their costs and make their energy use sustainable in comparison with the competition.

Originally, Okwumabua worked with energy brokerage firms in order to learn more about the industry. He said he challenged his original work places with how to diversify energy portfolios.

With a background in electricity and natural gas, he felt prepared to lead his own business.

“I really feel like I make a difference in giving back to the community,” Okwumabua said. “At this point now, a lot of suppliers … are kind of waiting in line to work with me.”

It wasn’t always like that from the beginning, but after working with partners he trusted, he’s become able to help lower the energy costs of many companies along with his team. Employees work for Okwumabua remotely to address energy consultation duties in deregulated states, with companies that have energy options to choose.

“I’m a musician first and foremost,” said Okwumabua, who’s seriously followed his musical side since high school.

He was a founding member of the Infinity band that led to the development of Infinity Visual and Performing Arts in Jamestown. With the rest of the band starting in 1998, he sang, arranged harmonies and generally left an impact on what would become “a place where (children) could call home for their musical souls.”

“I was blessed enough to be a part of the genesis of (Infinity),” Okwumabua said.

He thanked Ron Graham, the “architect” of Infinity for encouraging his musical roots; his family at the Emmanuel Baptist Church; and his parents, Benjamin and Constance Okwumabua.

Okwumabua is known as Jus Daniel for his stage name. He has performed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem three times and plans on releasing an album in the near future.

“There’s so many things that I want to do,” Okwumabua said.
