Sauce Maker Celebrates Rebranding After Director’s Request

BEMUS POINT -- A spaghetti and pizza sauce maker from Bemus Point has a new name for his products.

Consumers heading to local stores to buy the formerly-known "Coppola's Italian Sauces" will find the product now named "Marco Rosso's Italian Sauces." The renaming came after Luke Andriaccio, local sauce maker and Coppola's Pizzaria owner, received a letter from film director Francis Ford Coppola's attorney to "cease and desist" his sauce business venture due to trademark infringements.

A ribbon-cutting held Friday at Coppola's Pizzaria, located at 20 Main St. in Bemus Point, kicked off the beginning of the sauce renaming. From family and friends to local officials and business partners, a large group gathered to celebrate the rebranding.

"It's been pretty nuts," Andriaccio said as he reflected over the past few months. "It's good-crazy though. I don't mind it. Business has been great."

Andriaccio said he chose to go with his middle name, Marco, and combine it with "Rosso," or red, in recognition of his red-headed boys, Lucas Jr. and Robert, and his wife, Grace. Pictures of his family can be found on the back of the sauce jars.

"Family's everything in Italian," he said.

The pizzeria name and former name for Andriaccio's sauces pays homage to his grandparents and great-grandparents who left the village of Collepietro and journeyed to America. Andriaccio is a third-generation pizza maker who uses his grandmother's recipes to make homemade dough and sauce.

Sauce products can be found locally at Wegmans in Jamestown, Bemus Point Market, Lighthouse Grocery in Mayville and Farm Fresh Foods on Third Street in Jamestown. Andriaccio said he's hoping the product will be made available at other Wegmans stores and Tops Markets soon.

Bemus Point Mayor Bryan Dahlberg said the Andriaccios and Coppola's Pizzaria both have been a huge part of the community. "I've tried the sauce and it's delicious," he said. "I've come to get some pizza too. They're good folks and we're fortunate to have them in the community."

Andriaccio has said the sauce business will be moving to a manufacturer due to demand. A distributor might also be involved in the near future.

As for the jar label, Andriaccio said a new one is in the works. He said the new design aims to attract attention. The theme will still bring together Italy and Bemus Point.
