CHARLOTTE — It was supposed to be like any other arraignment.

But shortly before noon Tuesday, Jacob M. Raynor, a Sinclairville man facing felony narcotics charges in Charlotte Town Court, managed to escape custody and bolt toward a nearby trailer park. A manhunt for Raynor continues today.

Police believe Raynor, 34, is not armed or dangerous. He is described as 6 feet tall, 170 pounds and was last known to be handcuffed and wearing a black shirt and black hat.

The public is asked to call 9-1-1 with any information on his whereabouts.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Town Of Charlotte Court would not provide further specifics on the nature of the escape or how many court security officers were present during the incident.

It was also not confirmed whether Raynor had any accomplices.

Raynor’s prior criminal history includes a charge of petit larceny following a June 2013 break-in of a Foote Avenue residence, in which a 40-inch television was stolen.

In July 2013, Raynor was remanded to Chautauqua County Jail following an investigation into several break-ins around the village of Sinclairville. Items included in his thefts ranged from jewelry to a multitude of guns.

The Sinclairville Elementary School and Cassadaga Valley Middle High School were in a lockout due to Tuesday’s escape.

A representative from the Cassadaga Valley Central School District said the district received a call from the Sheriff’s Office suggesting the school go into lockout. Lockout means no one can enter or exit the building until further notice.

Classes were conducted as normal. The lockout was purely a safety measure, the representative said.

The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the New York State Police and the K-9 units from various agencies.
