Infinity To Host 13th Annual Local Music Showcase Saturday, Volunteers Needed
The regular September practice of allowing area musicians to play and support one another in a one-night, citywide endeavor will once again return to Jamestown next week.
Infinity Visual and Performing Arts will host its 13th annual Local Music Showcase on Saturday, Sept. 10, featuring more acts than ever before at 13 different venues within a five-block radius of each other.
Operating as Infinity’s largest yearly fundraiser to help cover its instructional costs, the eight-hour event will kick off at 6 p.m. and feature nonstop live music at several downtown Jamestown locations including: Brazil Craft Beer and Wine Lounge; Forte; the Infinity Arts Cafe; Jamestown Skating Products; Jones Valhalla Restaurant; the Labyrinth Press Company; Mojo’s Music Bar; Phoenix Rising Wellness Studio; Shawbucks; the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts’ Studio Theater; The Pub; The Q Sports Bar and Night Club; and The Wine Cellar.
The Local Music Showcase typically raises between $7,000 and $8,000 each year. According to Stephanie Rogers, Infinity’s grants and marketing coordinator, the Infinity organization is looking forward to presenting a record number of acts and is proud of the Local Music Showcase’s expansion over the past several years.
“We’re really excited because we have 54 acts signed up to participate this year, whereas we typically have about 43-47,” Rogers said. “The fact that we’ve gotten to the point where we can successfully coordinate and oversee more than 50 bands performing within five blocks of each other really shows the support that we have from the music and arts community. We’re really humbled by the support we’re getting from venues, musicians and folks just coming out to check out live music.”
Community response to the showcase has also grown exponentially since its humble beginnings in Bemus Point in 2004, to the point where between 700 and 800 tickets are being sold from year to year. The money raised from ticket sales goes directly to the instructional and programming costs for Infinity, which begins its programming in September to coincide with a new school year.
“We are not funded at the state or federal level,” said Shane Hawkins, executive director. “Fundraising makes up about 10-15 percent of our annual budget, so fundraisers like this are very crucial for us.”
Tickets for the showcase are available at Infinity’s downtown location at 301 E. Second St. They can be purchased for $10 in advance, and exchanged for an all-access wristband on the day of the showcase. Wristbands can also be purchased on the day of the event for $15 at one of three kiosks that will be situated throughout the city at: Infinity Visual and Performing Arts from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.; Shawbucks from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.; and Phoenix Rising Wellness Studio from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Each act must retrieve their wristbands from Infinity prior to their performance.
Participating acts in the 2016 Local Music Showcase include: Tony Flint; Daoist Cowboy and the Name of Which Escapes Me; Jacob Swanson; Andrew Speer; Adam McKillip; Gary Peters Jr.; Cindy Love; Andy Conti; The Relevants; Kangarilla; All’amore; Dead Calm; Too Skinny; Rosemary Lies; I Am Frankie Scrapmetal; Himalayan Redneck Opera; Decho Ensemble; John C.
