Deadly Escalation

2 min read

The victim of Thursday’s fatal shooting at 853 Prendergast Ave. has been identified as 28-year-old Obryan Ramos.

Jamestown police said Ramos was shot multiple times by an unknown shooter, who reportedly walked up to the porch of the residence just before 6 p.m., opened fire and fled on foot behind the house.

Ramos was later pronounced dead at WCA Hospital.

Captain Robert F. Samuelson, division commander of the Jamestown Police Department, said Ramos may have had a dispute with another person earlier in the day or days prior to the shooting.

“We’re looking to see if anybody witnessed that (altercation) or if anybody has any information on that,” Samuelson said.

Investigators are actively following leads and questioning witnesses of the incident.

Samuelson could not confirm whether the shooting was drug-related.

The shooter has been described as black or Hispanic, and was reportedly wearing dark clothes during the shooting, according to police.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 483-7537, or leave an anonymous tip by calling 483-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.

Ramos has reportedly had multiple run-ins with the law.

In 2015, Ramos was charged with first-degree armed robbery after he and two others allegedly attacked and threatened a 20-year-old motorist with a weapon.

An investigation determined that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.

Previous charges include unlawful possession of marijuana, fourth-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, dating back to 2010.
