City Man Charged In ‘One Pot’ Meth Bust

A city man is in custody after Jamestown Police received information Thursday that methamphetamine was allegedly being produced in an upper apartment at 242 McKinley Ave.

Alexander Jankowiak, 20, a resident at the address, was arrested after investigators from the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant and located a quanity of materials that are used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Investigators did observe multiple containers that appeared to be for the manufacture of meth that is often referred to the “one pot” or “shake and bake” method.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday night, the New York State Police were still working to clean up the suspected methamphetamine lab.

Despite the freezing temperature, the Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response team was ridding the area of containers and chemicals dressed in heavy winter garb.

“We work very closely with Jamestown Police Department,” said State Trooper Carl Liss, adding that Jamestown Police Department served a warrant at the location earlier in the day Thursday. “They called us for assistance.”

Liss and his team were on-site to clean up the area and make sure it was safe.

“Our job is to come here and remediate the methamphetamines lab,” Liss said. “It means we suit up in protective wear and collect the precursors to the meth lab.”

Liss added that evidence was removed from the household and sampled to make sure that meth was being made on the premise.

“We brought everything out and made sure it was safe,” he said. “That’s our end of it JPD did the arrest and the search warrant and they will continue with the prosecution of whoever was here.”

The Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force charged Jankowiak with second-degree criminal possession of a substance and third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine. Jankowiak is currently being held in the city jail and is awaiting arraignment. More charges are expected and the investigation is ongoing.
