Two men are facing charges after a nearly four-hour standoff that began late Wednesday morning on West Ninth Street.

At about 11:40 a.m., Jamestown police officers responded to an address in attempt to locate Tyler Shirley, 39, of the city, who was wanted for a domestic violence related charge in addition to warrants through the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers arrived at the residence and observed Tyler Shirley exit the front door and retreat back into the residence. He was armed with a fixed-blade knife that he was displaying. As the incident continued to unfold, Jamestown Police Department Crisis Negotiators, its SWAT and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department SWAT were called to the scene to assist. Numerous negotiation attempts were made, but ultimately failed.

While officers were attempting to safely resolve the incident, Freeman Shirley, 64, continued interfering with SWAT operations despite being given multiple opportunities and orders to stop. He was taken into custody for obstructing governmental administration and physically resisted arrest.

Freeman Shirley was then transported to the City Jail where he was processed and released.

At about 3:30 p.m., Tyler Shirley was taken into custody by SWAT who utilized a Taser Energy Weapon. Once in custody, he was transported to UPMC Chautauqua at WCA hospital where he was treated for a self inflicted arm laceration. He was arraigned in Jamestown City Court Thursday morning where bail was set.
