A youth and his parents face charges after the youth allegedly led police on chase from the north side of Jamestown into West Ellicott on an e-bike on Thursday.
According to a police report, at 6:18 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to West Eighth and Cherry streets for a vehicle complaint of several youth riding electric bikes in the street, allegedly creating a traffic hazard for passing motorists. Officer’s located one of the males operating an electric bike near Washington and W. Third streets and tried to pull the e-bike over for violating state Vehicle and Traffic laws. The youth suspect failed to stop and then reportedly led police on 20-minute chase through the southwest side of the city before eventually stopping in West Ellicott, where the youth was taken into custody without further incident.
The juvenile’s parents, Justin Barr and Monica Barr, were located shortly after and were both charged with endangering the welfare of a child (failure to exercise control of a minor.) Both were taken to the city jail until they could be arraigned.
The juvenile was released to another guardian, and further charges are pending.
