CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
– Joel W. Stein, 38, of Westfield, was charged Friday with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, and improper/no signal. Officials said, at about 2:23 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on West Main Street in the Village of Fredonia for an alleged traffic violation. The vehicle was being operated by Stein and through investigation Stein was found allegedly to be driving while intoxicated. Stein was placed into custody, and was taken to the town of Pomfret substation where he was later released. He will be in Fredonia Village Court later.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
– Christopher L. Morton, 36, was charged Friday with driving while ability impaired, and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. According to police, at about 2:44 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the area of North Main Street and West Oak Hill Road. Through investigation it was found that the vehicle’s operator, Morton, allegedly under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs. Morton, police said, also was found to be allegedly in possession of 6.5 grams of cocaine. He was placed into custody without incident, and taken to Jamestown City Jail. Morton will be in Jamestown City Court later.
