CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
— The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of horses in the road in the town of Pomfret. Deputies made contact with the horse’s owner, 39-year-old Jacob H.Tye, a town resident, who deputies said continues to intentionally release the horses despite local property being damaged, and traffic being obstructed by their presence.
Tye did have an outstanding warrant and when notified that he was under arrest did attempt to run from the area in an effort to evade arrest. He was taken into custody and was charged with reckless endangerment of property as well as resisting arrest. He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment. He will be back in town court later.
— SHERMAN — At around 1:48 a.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Park St. in the village. The operator was identified as Zavon T. Overton, 23, of Fredonia. Further investigation found Overton to be Driving While Intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and No/Inadequate Lights. He will answer charges in the town court.
— MINA — At around 3:51 a.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a property damage motor vehicle accident on Route 430. The operator fled the scene and was later located by Sheriff K9 Seven, and taken into custody. He was identified as 23-year-old Austin C. Snyder from Oil City, Pa. Further investigation found Snyder was operating the motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with DWI, DWI per se, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, and Moved from Lane Unsafely. He will answer charges in town court.
— RIPLEY The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address for a reported altercation at 4 a.m. Saturday. After an investigation it was determined that during the altercation David L. McLaughlin III, 32, of Ripley did pursue another and upon locating them utilized his body to destroy a door to gain access. This action was performed in the presence of children and due to the state’s mandatory arrest law he was taken into custody. McLaughlin was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail to participate in the Centralized Arraignment Program. He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of children and second-degree menacing in the second degree. He will be in court later.
— RIPLEY — At about 7:44 a.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched to the report of a vehicle in a ditch at the intersection of NE Sherman and South Ripley roads. After an investigation, the driver of the vehicle was identified as George Stoddard, 58 of South Ripley Road. It was found that Stoddard was operating his vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken into custody and later released with tickets for moving from lane unsafely, improper or unsafe turn, felony driving while intoxicated, and aggravated driving while intoxicated — with a blood alcohol content of 0.27%. He will be in town court later.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
— Jason A. Swartz, 40, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
At 3:46 a.m. Sunday, officers esponded to a Southside address on a follow-up from a domestic dispute that took place at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. That evening, a female victim arrived at the department’s reception area with significant bruises around her neck. It was determined that Swartz was involved in a physical domestic with the victim.
The defendant reportedly had held down and choked the victim in front of a 6-year-old juvenile. Swartz was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the city jail. He was being held pending arraignment.
— Christopher M. Sisson, 45, was charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday.
At 1:53 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing a vehicle
traveling the wrong way on East Fourth Street, which is one way. Further
investigation into the stop discovered that Sisson was operating this motor vehicle in an intoxicated state.
Sisson was being held in the Jamestown City Jail, pending arraignment.
