CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

– Ryan Smith, 40, of Silver Creek, was charged Oct. 22 with animal cruelty. According to officials, at about 2 p.m., deputies were dispatched for a report of animal cruelty which occurred on Angell Road in Silver Creek. After an investigation it was found that Smith did possess one horse on his property which allegedly was not provided with adequate shelter from the elements. The horse has since been relocated to a local animal rescue. Smith will be in Hanover Town Court later.

JAMESTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT

– A fire that broke out on Oct. 23 at 810 N. Main St. is still under investigation. According to fire officials, when crews arrived at about 12:43 p.m., there was black smoke showing from the rear of the building. Firefighters then entered the front door, located the flames, and used

a hand line to extinguish fire. Crews completed searches of first and second floors, and no injuries were reported as the building is unoccupied and condemned. North Main Street was closed for about 30 minutes, and crews returned at 1:16 p.m. Jamestown Police Department assisted fire crews at the scene.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

– Richard A. Poorman III, 41, of Jamestown, was charged Oct. 24 with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and having an outstanding bench warrant. According to police, at about 4 a.m., officers were patrolling the east side when they observed Poorman walking in the area. Police said that Poorman is known to have outstanding bench warrants issued by JPD. Officers conducted a street check, and Poorman was found to be in alleged possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. Poorman was placed into custody, and taken to the Jamestown City Jail. He will be in Jamestown City Court later.

– Jennifer L. Fordham, 46, of Jamestown, was charged Oct. 23 with petit larceny. According to police, at about 3 p.m., officers responded to Tops Market, 2000 Washington St., for a reported shoplifting incident. Upon further investigation, it was found that Fordham, a store employee, had allegedly stolen merchandise from the business. Fordham was placed into custody, and taken to city jail, and will be in city court later.

– Michael C. Hillman, 38, of Jamestown, was charged Oct. 23 with petit larceny, resisting arrest, and aggravated criminal contempt; and Amber P. Coy, 24, of Jamestown was charged with petit larceny. According to police, at about 3:15 p.m., officers were already on scene at Tops Market, 2000 Washington St., for a shoplifting incident when officers were approached by store employees to report two additional people were allegedly stealing merchandise in the store. Coy was located and detained, and Hillman, who fled the scene on foot, was located a short time later at a nearby location. After a brief struggle, Hillman was placed into custody. Coy also was placed into custody, and found to have a bench warrant issued by Jamestown City Court. Upon further investigation, it was found that Coy was the protected party in an active order of protection against Hillman, issued by the city court. It was also found that Hillman had a warrant issued by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. Coy and Hillman were taken to city jail and will be in city court later.
