CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

– WESTFIELD – Steven G. Trippy, 33, of Westfield was charged Saturday with Driving While Intoxicated, DWI per se, and loud exhaust following a traffic stop around 1:40 a.m. in the town. He was released on appearance tickets.

– PORTLAND – Jorge L. Jimenez, 66, of Dunkirk has been charged with carrying an animal in a cruel manner under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law. On Aug. 31 around 7:45 a.m. an investigator from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office working a detail observed a westbound pickup truck on Route 5. This pick-up truck was pulling a utility trailer behind it with a metal loading ramp on the back of the trailer. The investigator alleges there was a German Shepherd type-dog to be standing in the back of the trailer with a rope tied around its neck. This rope was then tied to the top of the metal gate in a manner so as to have almost no slack in it, forcing the dog to stand constantly and preventing it from laying down. The manner in which the rope was around the dog’s neck also made it appear if the vehicle made any abrupt maneuver the dog had the potential of sustaining serious injury. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the City of Dunkirk Police Department and the New York State Parks Police.
