Bush blaze quickly quelled in Dunkirk

Dunkirk firefighters extinguished a bush and shrub fire on Saturday morning near a building.

At 6:24 a.m., the Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 60-62 Franklin Ave. Upon arrival, crews found bushes and shrubs burning on the southwest corner of the building. Crews used 1¾ hand line, tools and ventilation fans to extinguish the fire and clear light smoke conditions in a first floor office. The fire was contained to exterior bushes with light smoke conditions inside 60-62 Franklin Ave. Crews remained on scene for 45 minutes. The fire is currently under investigation.

Oven burner blamed in Silver Creek fire

SILVER CREEK — A house fire in the village started after a gas stove burner was left on and ignited nearby combustibles.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department report at 2:59 p.m. Saturday, The Silver Creek Fire Department along with mutual aid responded to Beachview Drive for a reported house fire. The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was requested for an origin and cause fire investigation. No injuries were reported and the fire is being ruled accidental in nature.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— FRENCH CREEK — A Clymer man is facing a number of charges after trying to evade law enforcement.

At about 12:16 a.m. Sunday, a deputy observed a utility task vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on a public highway. The deputy activated his emergency lights attempting to stop the vehicle and it failed to comply.

The vehicle continued on several roads in an attempt to evade the deputy, eventually entering an industrial farm where it traveled down dirt roads until the vehicle became stuck.

The operator was detained without further incident and shortly after the deputy located an unregistered pistol inside the vehicle containing a high-capacity magazine. Following an investigation, it was determined that the operator, who was identified as Denton Holthouse, 28, was driving while intoxicated with a BAC above a 0.18 and operating on a suspended driver’s license. He was subsequently transported to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for processing and held in the Chautauqua County Jail pending Centralized Arraignment. Holthouse was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, aggravated DWI, DWI, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, and a number of vehicle and traffic tickets.

He will be in the town court at a later date.

— HANOVER — At 11:22 p.m. Friday, deputies conducted a traffic stop in Sunset Bay in the Town of Hanover. The operator was identified as Thomas Miranda, 59, of Hanover. He was found to be driving while intoxicated, placed in custody and taken to a substation in Hanover for processing. Thomas was released with appearance tickets.

— MAYVILLE — Around 6:04 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a check of the well being in the village. After speaking with individuals, deputies discovered that a subject may have left in an intoxicated state. The subject was located on Northeast Sherman Road and identified as Thomas Zemcik, 43, of Mayville. Zemcik was found to be intoxicated and taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. He was later released with tickets for the Town of Ripley Court.

— HANOVER — At 12:42 a.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Allegany Road. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Douglas E Czechowski, 55, of West Seneca. Further investigation found Czechowski to be driving while intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and failure to stop at a stop sign. Czechowski will be in Town of Hanover Court at a later date.

— SHERIDAN — Around 3:31 a.m. Sunday, deputies conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle speeding in a 55 mph speed zone. The operator was identified as Shianne Erickson, 20, of Hamburg and was found to be driving while ability impaired by drugs. She was charged and later released with appearance tickets.

— HANOVER — At around 1:41 a.m., deputies of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The operator was identified as Kevin Walsh, 41, of Lakeview, who was found to be driving while intoxicated. He was charged and issued tickets for court at a later date.

— BEMUS POINT — At around 11:02 p.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Center Street. The operator was identified as Dylan J. Granger, 27, of South Dayton. Further investigation found Granger to be driving while intoxicated. He was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, and speed in zone. He will answer charges in Town of Ellery Court.

— BEMUS POINT — At around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Center Street. The operator was identified as Mackenna V. Bay, 25, of Powell, Ohio. Further investigation found Bay to be driving while intoxicated. Bay was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and speed in zone. She will answer charges in Town of Ellery Court.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— David L. Lewis Jr., 41, of Jamestown, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.

At around 11:51 p.m., officers were summoned to a north side address for a reported fight. A subsequent investigation determined Lewis engaged in a physical altercation with

two female victims on scene, one being a minor.

During the altercation, Lewis broke the adult victim’s glasses and caused physical injury to her. Lewis was transported to the Jamestown City Jail.

— Natashia L. Tuttle, 37, of Falconer, was charged with a Jamestown city code curfew violation. At around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, officers were summoned to a north side address for a group

of suspicious juveniles on the property. The investigation led to Tuttle being cited for curfew violation for allowing a 14-year-old minor in her custody to be out without an adult present.

Tuttle will be in Jamestown City Court at a later date.

— Adam C Logue, 22, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree aggravated harassment.

At around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to an East side residence for a domestic dispute. Upon

arrival officers discovered Logue had made threats to the victim via telephone. Logue had fled prior to officers arrival. However, after a quick investigation officers were able to locate Logue at an address on the city’s South side. Logue was swiftly taken into custody and transported to the city jail without incident pending arraignment.
