Blaze damages
home in Dunkirk
Exposed electrical wiring is being blamed for a house fire on Friday in the city of Dunkirk, according to the investigation team at the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred at 153 King St. at 4:09 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, Dunkirk firefighters discovered a fire on the first floor of a two story home. All occupants had fled the house prior to the arrival of the department.
A hose line was advanced into the first floor and the fire quickly extinguished with minor extension in a wall up into the second floor. The fire caused extensive damage to the first floor and smoke damage throughout the house. There were no injuries.
Three adults and one child were displaced due to the fire.
Minutes after the dispatch for the fire there was a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries at Fifth and Deer streets. While at the fire, there was a natural gas incident at 90 Lincoln Ave. Fredonia Fire, East Dunkirk Fire, ALSTAR EMS and Chautauqua County EMS assisted with the incidents.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
A pair of Jamestown residents are facing drug and weapons charges.
At 1:17 a.m. Friday, Jamestown Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of West Fourth and Jefferson streets. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that a passenger in the vehicle, Nathan M. Owen, 34, had an outstanding warrant from the Jamestown Police Department. He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
A search of the vehicle was completed and officers determined that another passenger inside the vehicle, Jarried M. Dean, 32, was in possession of a throwing star which is illegal in the state of New York. both subjects were in custody, officers determined that Dean had 11.0 grams of methamphetamine and an additional quantity of home made pills which tested positive for the presence of opiates.
Officers also located a quantity of fentanyl concealed on Owen. Both were transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Owen was charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and the bench warrant while Dean was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
