Bemus Point couple safe after boat fire

Two Bemus Point residents are safe after a boat fire.

Michael Giarrizzo, 86, was operating a vessel around 7:10 p.m. Friday in the Bemus Bay area and through the Bemus Narrows by the Stow Ferry with Barbara Giarrizzo, 83, onboard. He noticed a clicking noise in the engine compartment and saw smoke.

When he opened the engine cover the boat burst into flames. Both grabbed floatation devices and jumped off the boat into the lake.

A swimmer from shore and other boaters nearby assisted and got both out of the water and brought them to shore.

Three charged after Jamestown traffic stop

Three individuals are facing drug charges after a Friday evening traffic stop.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., officers observed Brook A. Patterson, 38, of Frewsburg, operating a motor vehicle in the area of West Seventh St. and Cherry Street. Officers had prior knowledge that Patterson had an outstanding felony warrant from the Jamestown Police Department and had a revoked driver’s license.

Officers conducted a stop and observed narcotics in plain view. A search of the vehicle determined that Patterson was in possession of a quantity of cocaine, suboxone, currency, a digital scale and a switchblade knife.

Officers also determined that the passengers of the vehicle, Ruben L. Medina, 19, of Jamestown and Chelsey L. Green, 31, of Kennedy were both also in possession of a quantity of cocaine. The three were taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Medina and Green were both charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and Patterson was charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, first-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

LAKEWOOD-BUSTI POLICE

— ASHVILLE — An 18-year-old is facing charges after an incident with a marshmallow poker.

Andre M. Guzda of 2477 Lakeside Drive was charged with second-degree harassment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal contempt. Police say around 7:15 p.m. Aug. 14, Guzda became upset with a female family member and struck her on the back of the head with a marshmallow poker. When the female attempted to call 911 for help, Guzda attempted to prevent her from doing so by knocking the phone out of her hand and threw another object at her and then fled the scene.

An Order of Protection was issued out of the Town of Busti court back on July 17 for a similar incident with the same female family member.

Guzda was located and taken into custody by patrol a short time later. Guzda was arrested and transported to the county jail for Centralized Arraignment Processing. .
