Jamestown Police Department — Austin J. Muntz, 27, of Jamestown, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, an active bench warrant for endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator. Officers with the Jamestown Police Department, Third Platoon, initiated a traffic stop Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. of a red jeep which was observed allegedly committing traffic infractions on Fulton Street. Through investigation it was found that the driver of the vehicle, Mutz, had an active bench warrant out of JPD for the alleged endangerment of a child. However, it was also discovered that Muntz also has an active stay away order of protection in place with the passenger in his vehicle. Muntz was taken in custody and transported to the city jail where he will answer the active bench warrant in Jamestown City Court. — Christopher Conklin, 37, of Jamestown is facing a slew of charges that includes several hate crime charges, after allegedly pretending to be a police officer and allegedly attacking a person early Tuesday evening. The victim told police Conklin attacked him near the Chadakoin River, and called him an “immigrant.” The victim then stated Conklin told him he had an active warrant and to get on the ground. Conklin, then allegedly tackled the victim and then told the young man he wanted to fight him. When the victim called 911, Conklin charged him again, injuring the victim and threw the victim’s cell phone in the river. He then fled the scene before the police arrived. A short time later, police officers located Conklin on the Northside of the city and the victim was able to positively identify him. Conklin was subsequently arrested and charged with third-degree robbery-hate crime, third-degree assault-hate crime, third-degree criminal mischief- hate crime, fourth-degree criminal mischief-hate crime, first-degree criminal impersonation of an officer and endangering the welfare of a child. He was transported to the city jail pending arraignment.
