CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— At around 12;30 a.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Porter Avenue in the town of Pomfret. The operator was identified as Paul Velzy, 25, of Dunkirk. Further investigation found Velzy to be driving while intoxicated. Velzy was additionally charged with DWI, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation along with additional Vehicle and traffic violations. He was later released and will be in town court.

— ELLERY — A 25-year-old Bemus Point man is facing charges after deputies were dispatched to High Acres Mobile Home Park in the for a reported altercation. Upon arrival and through investigation it was determined that Mark A. Guzman did commit unwanted physical contact with another individual in the presence of a person under 17 years old before 7 p.m. Friday.

He was placed in custody and transported to county jail for arraignment on the charges of second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He will be back in court later.

JAMESTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT

— City firefighters made quick work of a porch fire on Friday afternoon. Department Chief Matt Coon said responders reported smoke coming from the eaves of the house just after 4:30 p.m. The homeowner at 16 Locust St. reported he had fire was in the dead space between his porch ceiling and the house roof.

Crews gained access to the area burning above the porch ceiling, cutting an access hole with a chainsaw. Crews were able to knock down the fire once access was gained. There were no injuries and the department was back in service before 6 p.m.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Two individuals have been charged with trespassing at the Spring Street parking ramp. Alex C. Peru, 31, and Remy L. Kelly, 24, were found in the location before 11 a.m. in the stairwells between the first and second levels. Peru and Kelly, who were not customers of the parking ramp, are due back in Jamestown City Court at a later date.
