Driving mishap kills one, injures 5 in

ALLEGANY — State Police in Olean are investigating an incident Sunday night on Cheese Factory Road where a driver struck multiple individuals that led to the death of one and injuries to five others.

Around 7:30 p.m., troopers report a 2014 Ford Fusion operated by Peggy J. Errera, 70 of Bradford, Pa., was backing out of a driveway into the road. Errera intended to go straight, but never straightened the wheels as she accelerated the Ford.

The Ford accelerated back into the driveway and struck six people gathered in the front lawn of the residence. One of the victims, Ronald S. Piechota, 81, of Schenectady, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another 66-year-old victim was air lifted and taken to Erie County Medical Center with severe injuries. The four other victims were being treated at local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Errera was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and no signs of intoxication were detected.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in this investigation, which is continuing.

CHAUTAUQUA

COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— MINA — At around 10 p.m. Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Mann Road. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Joshua Russell, 37 of Erie, Pa. Further investigation found Russell to be driving while intoxicated. Russell was charged with DWI,DWI per se, and speed in zone and later released to return to town court later.

— ELLERY — Around 1:27 a.m. Sunday, deputies stopped a vehicle for an alleged traffic violation on Route 430. Through investigation it was determined the operator of the vehicle Noah A. Webb, 22, of Mayville, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Webb was charged with DWI, DWI Per Se, fail to keep right, speed in zone, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was later released and will return later to town court.

— MINA — Around 3:37 p.m. Friday, deputies and State Police responded to a altercation. It was reported that the suspect Gregory A. Griswold, 34, struck a female with a broom while violating an order of protection. He was charged with second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree harassment. He was taken into custody and transported to Mayville for centralized arraignment.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Mark W. Frankson, 56, of Lakewood, was charged with unnecessary noise, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, DWI and a number of vehicle and traffic violations after an incident early Monday.

Officers assisted by the Stop DWI Unit performed a traffic stop on a motorcycle on North Main Street for loud music around 12:04 a.m. Officers determined Frankson was operating the motorcycle with revoked state driving privileges and was intoxicated. Upon advisement of his arrest, Frankson resisted from officers and was later taken into custody.

Officers recovered a loaded 9mm pistol from Frankson’s rear waistband, but he did not possess a pistol permit. Frankson was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and was awaiting arraignment.

— Kayin J. Ziolkowski, 19, of Jamestown, was charged Saturday night with trespassing at the Cherry Street parking ramp. Officers said Ziolkowski had no vehicle in the ramp, or any reason to be in the ramp. He was issued the ticket, which will be answered later in city court.
