Chautauqua Lake drowning claims life of Ohio man

An Ohio man who did not return from a morning of fishing drowned in Chautauqua Lake.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office located the vessel matching the description in the area of Bemus Point around 8:30 a.m. A short distance from the vessel, a subject was located submerged in the water. The subject was recovered by the Marine Patrol and pronounced deceased a short time later by the Coroner’s Office.

The victim was identified as Robert W. Mieczkowski, 66, of Wintersville, Ohio.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— A Jamestown man wanted on warrants has been charged in the theft of a vehicle.

After midnight Saturday, officers conducted a street check in the area of Newland Avenue and South Main Street. Officers located Jonathan S King, 32, in front of a residence. Officers confirmed King had active warrants through the Jamestown Police Department as well as the Lakewood-Busti Police Department.

King was placed into custody and upon further investigation, officers located a set of keys on King belonging to a stolen motor vehicle from Shults Kia of Jamestown. Officers located the vehicle which contained King’s dog inside of it. King was transported to the Jamestown City Jail where he was held pending arraignment on his active warrants and was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

— Jamestown Police conducted a traffic stop at East Sixth and Fulton streets at 11:20 p.m. Saturday. During the course

of the investigation it was determined that Todd A. Dellahoy Jr., 25, of Jamestown was in possession of a quantity of Fentanyl. Dellahoy was transported to the City Jail and later released on a charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

WESTFIELD — Around 5:23 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a possible burglary in progress at an address on Route 394. While responding deputies were advised that the subjects had left the area in a vehicle. A short time later, deputies located a vehicle matching the description used in the burglary and initiated a traffic stop on Route 430 in the town of Chautauqua. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Austin G. Smith, 28, of Pueblo, Colo., and Jamie E. Norene, 48, of Jamestown. Further investigation into the incident found that Smith and Norene were in possession of two firearms and a large quantity of property that was removed from the Route 394 residence.

Smith and Norene were charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Both were transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

— PORTLAND — At about 4:18 p.m. April 2, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Route 20. The operator was identified as William E. Curry Jr., 40, of Panama. Through an investigation, it was determined that Curry was in possession of methamphetamine. He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and will be in town court later.
