CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
POMFRET — A Dunkirk man was charged after driving to an event while intoxicated.
Deputies with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office were assisting with conducting a driving while intoxicated victim impact panel meeting at the BOCES LoGuidice Center on Wednesday. The victim impact program was started in early 2000, and is a collaboration of Stop DWI, the Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and Probation.
Defendants who were charged with driving while intoxicated, or impaired by drugs are mandated by the courts to attend a victim impact panel meeting. Part of meetings consist of defendant’s listening to panelists who have lost a loved one to the senseless act of driving while intoxicated related charges.
During the preregistration screening process, deputies observed one of the defendant’s, later identified as Paul H. Dietzen, 67, arriving to the meeting operating a 2022 Hyundia. While registering, deputies determined that Dietzen drove to the meeting intoxicated. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with more than a 0.08 blood alcohol content.
After processing, it was determined that Dietzen’s blood alcohol content was 0.13%, which is over the legal limit of .08 %. Dietzen was released, and is to be back in the town of Pomfret court later.
