CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
— HANOVER — At about 11:55 p.m. Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a suspicious situation involving a vehicle. The vehicle was located on Hanover Road and the operator of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Steven E. Gardner of Fredonia. Further investigation found that Gardner was driving while intoxicated. There was also a child in the vehicle during this time making this an aggravated DWI — Leandra’s Law. Gardner was transported to county jail for arraignment.
— CHAUTAUQUA — At around 8:34 p.m. Friday, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle on Valley Street for an alleged traffic violation. Further investigation found that Janelle L. Long, 47, of Mayville, who was the operator of the vehicle was in possession of a controlled substance. She was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and failure to keep right. She will be in town of Chautauqua court later.
— SILVER CREEK — Around 7 p.m., deputies were dispatched to an address in the village. Through further investigation it was discovered that Joseph C. Joy, 41, of Silver Creek, allegedly got into a physical altercation with another individual. Joy was also alleged to have violated an active court order, along with preventing an individual to call for emergency services. Joy was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment. Joy was transported to the Hanover substation and later to transported to county jail for arraignment.
NEW YORK STATE POLICE
RIPLEY — On Oct. 12 at 9:59 p.m., Troopers out of Fredonia charged William L. Leamer, 58 of Ripley with two felonies: first-degree criminal contempt and third-degree criminal mischief, as well as fourth-degree criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated after a domestic-related incident with his wife.
Troopers responded to a 911 call about a male doing damage to the front of the property of a residence. Leamer had allegedly damaged the mailbox, as well as used his vehicle to damage the front yard. An investigation revealed an active complete “stay away” order of protection was in place and that Leamer’s wife was the protected party. While Troopers were still on scene, Leamer was observed passing by in his vehicle.
Troopers stopped the vehicle and Leamer admitted to being at the residence earlier in the evening. During the interview, Troopers noted he displayed signs of impairment including watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor or beverage alcohol coming from his breath. Leamer also failed standardized field sobriety tests administered at the scene.
Leamer was charged and processed at Fredonia where he refused a chemical breath test.
LAKEWOOD-BUSTI POLICE
DEPARTMENT
— BUSTI — A Jamestown man has been charged after a motor-vehicle accident on Saturday evening on Hunt Road.
Lakewood-Busti police report they were dispatched to the accident where a vehicle struck a tree around 10:11 p.m. Upon arrival, the damaged vehicle was located but the driver was not at the scene.
Through an investigation, the driver was identified as Deontae J. Martin, 26, of 512 1/2 Main St. He was later located at his residence. Martin admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana prior to the accident. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and crossing over a hazard marking. He will be in court later.
— LAKEWOOD — Officers were dispatched to the Lakewood Walmart for a shoplifting incident around 11 p.m. Friday. It was learned that a male subject had concealed several items inside a backpack and switched the price tags on numerous other items to ring up at a lower price. Upon exiting the store, patrol stopped the subject who was identified to be Jody L. Crissman II. Crissman, 31, of 368 Willard St., Jamestown, was found to be in possession of several open items that had not been paid for and became non-sellable.
It was also learned that Crissman had been restricted from the store back on April 23, 2017, for a similar incident and was now in the store unlawfully, making this incident a felony. Crissman was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny. He will be in court later.
