Erratic ride leads to charges against motorcyclist

DUNKIRK — An erratic motorcyclist who was driving at a high rate of speed and on city sidewalks is facing numerous charges.

Dunkirk police reported Saturday evening that on Aug. 28, they observed a motorcycle being driven by Erick Rivera-Cosme, 21, of Dunkirk, north on Maple Avenue in violation of several state vehicle and traffic violations. Patrol attempted a traffic stop when the operator continued driving, failing to comply.

Patrol observed the operator stop in between houses on the 500 block of Columbus Avenue. Patrol attempted to contact and the operator again fled south, while driving on the sidewalk at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, officers observed Rivera-Cosme who was taken into custody and released with an appearance ticket and several uniform traffic tickets. His charges included: failure to comply and obey a police officer, improper plates, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, having an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without a proper license, driving on and across a sidewalk, speed not reasonable and prudent, reckless driving and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.

COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— STOCKTON — An altercation that included a machete has led to charges for a town resident.

At about 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Route 380. Upon arrival, deputies determined that Justin J. Grant, 30, was involved in an argument with multiple subjects that resulted in him pulling a machete out on another subject and threatened to cause harm to that individual.

This took place in front of children who were inside the residence at that time. Grant was taken into custody and charged with second-degree menacing, second-degree aggravated harassment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment. He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail to await the centralized arraignment process.

— RIPLEY — At about 01:06 a.m. Thursday, the Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Welch Hill Road. Upon arrival the vehicle was found lodged in a ditch. The vehicle’s operator was identified as Timothy McBride, 71, of Ripley.

Following an investigation it was determined that McBride was driving while ability impaired by drugs. McBride was arrested and later released with tickets to appear in the Town of Ripley Court at a later date.
